Dr. Robert Rioseco explains how combining the technology of Sirona ORTHOPHOS XG3D Imaging and CEREC® dental crowns can make missing teeth replacement more convenient and more accurate.

West Harrison, NY — Last summer, White Plains dentist Dr. Robert Rioseco was invited to attend the Sirona 3D Summit in New York City as an instructor. At the conference, he taught other dentists about the benefits of ORTHOPHOS XG3D Imaging and the CEREC® milling machine working together, and how they can integrate this innovative equipment into their practices. At the seminar, Dr. Rioseco explained that the combination of technologies helps to minimize risk to the patient, and can create greater accuracy during certain oral surgery procedures.

“By using these two machines together, we are able to use a sequence of drills that go through a customized template, which allows us to place the implant in the exact spot it should be,” says Dr. Rioseco. He goes on to clarify that this customized template is created based off of a 3D image of the patient’s mouth created by the ORTHOPHOS XG3D. Using the image, he says he is able to have a template created within one hour on the CEREC® dental crown machine. This template acts as a guide for placing the implant, taking into account where the patient’s nerves, sinuses, and available bone are located.

In a recent blog post, titled “How 3D Imaging and CEREC® Are Working Together to Improve Your Dental Experience,” Dr. Rioseco explains that by combining the technology of these two machines, he is able to create both an implant abutment as well as an implant dental crown within one visit. He notes that this considerably cuts down on the time that patients normally have to wait for restorations, which is approximately three weeks. According to Dr. Rioseco, the 3D image produced by the XG3D also assists him in creating a customized dental crown on the CEREC® machine, designed to look and feel the same as the natural tooth that is being replaced.

By combining the capabilities of Sirona ORTHOPHOS XG3D Imaging and CEREC®, Dr. Rioseco says dentists can now streamline the workflow between the two devices, making a restorative procedure such as dental implants much more efficient. He says this improvement ultimately benefits patients, as well as dentists. Dr. Rioseco explains that by learning more about this advancement in dental technology and implementing it into their practice, dentists can provide exceptional care for their patients in a more convenient manner.
